Small Phenomena, Big Learning in NGSS

Teachers will experience learning through phenomena-based instruction and assessment in NGSS science using models from ES, MS, and HS. Teachers will think critically and apply their understanding, just as students do. They will analyze examples of how phenomena is used to assess students of all ages.

Outcomes:
  1. Teachers will develop a greater understanding about how to use phenomena to guide student learning.
  2. Teachers will experience the use of both anchoring and lesson-level phenomena as tools for teaching, learning, and assessment.
  3. Teachers will experience a variety of methods for assessing learning in science and deepen their understanding behind the value of frequent assessment.

DEIJB in Action: Student Groups Starting Small, Igniting Change

This interactive workshop focuses on how international schools in Korea can promote belonging and inclusivity through DEIJB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging) student groups. We will explore the role these groups play in shaping a positive school culture and climate by examining the development of the “We Belong” student club at KIS, Pangyo. Educators will walk away with tools and potential next steps for building their own student engagement group. 

Outcomes:
  1. Participants will discuss successes and challenges around creating student belonging in international schools in Korea
  2. Participants will leave with practical tools and potential next steps to increase student engagement with DEIJB
